First World War ski tour The Freedom Tour
World War I is the theme of this tour, although it has an optimistic mood as people in the grandiose Dolomite mountains know just how precious freedom is. Fierce battles broke out here between the Austrian Kaiserjäger, German Alpenkorps and Italian Alpini from May 1915 to November 1917. At the epicentre of the fighting, the Col di Lana mountain, the tour runs under the faces of famous summits such as Civetta, Monte Pelmo, Tofana, Lagazuoi, Conturines, Settsass, Sassongher, Sella and Marmolada.
It is a day trip to idyllic ski slopes for the whole family. The descent from Lagazuoi to Armentarola and the longest slope in the Dolomites from the Punta Rocca across the glaciers of the Marmolada to the Malga Ciapela are both spectacular stretches. The Civetta ski resort is a popular starting point, although the tour can also be started in San Cassiano, Corvara, Arabba and Malga Ciapela.
